At the height of its power and popularity, the Ultimate Fighting Championship today lost the man many recognize as the face of mixed martial arts. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture announced his resignation from the Las Vegas-based promotion, leaving two contracted fights, his job as an on-air analyst and his heavyweight crown on the table.
In South Africa shooting scenes for his lead role in the upcoming feature film The Scorpion King Rise of the Akkadian, Couture made the announcement official in a letter to UFC president Dana White. The UFCs inability to land PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko played a prominent role in the decision to walk away, according to Couture.
I appreciate this opportunity the sport of MMA and the UFC has given me, the UFC Hall-of-Famer said. However, Im tired of swimming upstream at this stage with the management of the UFC. It only makes sense at this point in my career to fight Fedor Emelianenko, and since hes now signed with another organization, I feel like it?s time to resign and focus on my other endeavors.?

It sounds like Randy Courture is at a crossroads and has opted out. I think you have to remember that he is not a young fighter that has something to prove. He knows that he is in the later years of his fighting career and I think he has decided if I can't fight one of the few guys left out there that I want to fight then I might as well retire now and go out as a winner. Not only that but since it sounds like Hollywood has found him now he probably wants to pursue other opportunities. Training and fighting don't usually leave time for other things and if Hollywood is calling and offering him a contract you can bet they won't let him get injured or messed up fighting.

I have had several friends that have got contracts with various groups in Hollywood. None of them can or could fight any longer once that contract was signed. Ultimately it is our loss as he was always a good fighter that came to the ring trained and prepared ready to fight and he did that pretty good, more often than not.

MMA is bigger than the UFC. The UFC got greedy and paid their stars like boxing pays journey men. It is a whole new ball game. The days of the UFC dominating the MMA fight promoting business are over.

The winners in the end will be the actuall fighters who put it all on the line.

it rather is in certainty genuine. it rather is a black eye for UFC, yet no longer likely to volume to all that plenty. in spite of everything, it wasn't numerous a secret that he grow to be only putting around long sufficient to combat Emelianenko, then grow to be going to retire besides. The UFC did no longer provide a rat's in the back of approximately him besides, on the grounds that they weren't paying him everywhere close to what different combatants have been getting, even however he grow to be the heavyweight champ and the only guy to win titles in 2 UFC weight divisions.

Aww how sad... Bo Jangles deleted his answer...

Oh well. This pretty much sucks... But he wasn't long for the MMA world. If he was just waiting around to fight Fedor, and now that's off, I don't blame him. Thanks for the memories Randy, good luck in the future, and I hope your arm gets better quick.

I think he's an idiot... He could at least have given up one more fight. He just flat quit b/c he couldn't get his way.

Moving on, who gets his belt?
