Question:
How long will Brock Lesnar be champion?
2008-11-24 11:35:36 UTC
I would not be surprised if Lesnar was submitted or taps out in his first title defense, especially if it's against a Jiu Jitsu practitioner. Frankly, i think Couture might be finished. he looked old, tired and dehydrated in his fight against Brock. I respect Lesnar in the sense that he's trying different things in life, but i am not expecting a long reign like a Matt Hughes or Chuck Liddell. I think Brock's fanatical following are from his WWE fans, not fans of MMA.

Couture wasn't tired, Brock was, if you watch the match again you can clearly see that Couture was the winner in the first round, and on the second round, his wasn't covering up at all after he cut brock, he got too confident that he was winning the match, well he really was until Brock hit him with a lucky punch. But if that pounch did not landed Couture would've won. Brock is a great athlete, he could be the best at one point, but with his attitude, and lazyness to train (he said it himself, he hates to train) it will not be long until someone takes the title away from him.

I'm a fan of Lesnar, and I've been a fan following MMA for 8+ years now. It's very intriguing to see a guy like him who is well known but new to MMA with tons of potential, who many people dislike just because of his "Pro" Wrestling past.

I'm not expecting a long reign from him.. Yet. If his next opponent is Frank Mir, I am confident that Brock will defeat him pretty easily. If it's Nogueira, on the other hand, I expect Big Nog to be the undisputed Heavyweight champ, unless somehow Brock can learn good enough submission knowledge and defense before that fight. However, even if he were to lose to Big Nog, I can easily see Brock winning again, then beating Minotauro in a rematch, then starting a lengthy title run. Big Nog's really the only Heavyweight in the UFC that I would give the advantage to against Brock right now. Anyone else I would give Brock at least a 50-50 chance at beating, if not better. Once Brock does have the submission and defensive knowledge that he needs, there's only one guy out there who will be able to compete with him, and we all know who that is.

I really hope that within the next year or so the UFC can go out and acquire the likes of Fedor, Barnett, Arlovski again, Alistair Overeem and try to get Cro Cop back in to the mix of winners.. Or at least a couple of them.

First of all Brock Lesnar is here to stay for the long haul. He is no joke and wants people to take him serious. He wants nothing to do with the WWE anymore. He is done with that and has moved on just like they have.

Comparing him to be like a Matt Hughes who held the belt for 2 years is a ignorant statement. Same goes for Liddell he had the belt almost 2 years.

Brock has the cardio, strength, and athletic ability to stay in the UFC for a long time.

If he fights "Nog" I think he will TKO him. Look at the Herring fight, he should have knocked him out but think if that was Lesnar's strength and explosiveness? That fight would have been finished very quickly.

This title should bounce around for a little bit until Lesnar learns jui-jitsu, submission defense and some boxing. When he learns these then he should be set for a great UFC career.

Well lets take a look at who is really in the UFC. I just want to say that Lesnar did a really good job and that the punch to the ear was a good shot, was it lucky, probably not as he has obviously been studying but Randy was wearing Lesnar down and it was a pretty equal fight.

Randy Couture: Randy is an older more experienced version of Brock Lesnar. He is strong at wrestling, good striking, great takedown defense and knows how to use the cage against his opponent. If Lesnar and Couture fought 10 times I think each would win 5 a piece. Lesnar is only going to get better however right now Couture could win, he isn't finished and is still in the title picture. Personally, I would love it for him to move down to the LHW division which could add some great twists.

Antonio Nogueira: If Big Nog beats Mir, which I think he is going to, I see no way that Lesnar can beat Nogueira. A man that is that dangerous at submissions and have never been knocked out! If Big Nog could withstand the explosion in the first round then he would be able to submit Lesnar in one of the other four rounds.

Frank Mir: If he beats Big Nog, he has a really good chance at beating Lesnar. This is when everyone thinks I have lost my mind, but think about this. The one thing that is really helping Lesnar is that no one is use to his power and explosiveness. Mir will be the only person to have fought Lesnar twice and will know what to expect. If anyone could get a good game plan together and know what is coming it would be Mir. The only way he could win is by submission, but I think he could do it.

Shane Carwin: Not only is he a great striker, he has good submission skills. He is 10 - 0 with 5 KOs and 5 Submissions three of them by Guillotine Choke. If Lesnar rushed in for a double leg Carwin could easily submit him. I think these two together would be a war; if Lesnar stood with Carwin, Carwin would have the title.

Cain Velasquez: Cain may give up 20+ pounds to Lesnar but has knocked out everyone he has fought in MMA in the first round. Lesnar would have to go on the defensive to beat Cain and I think Lesnar's ego would get in the way. This match-up would have to go to the ground for Lesnar to win.

Along with Gabriel Gonzaga, Cheick Kongo, Junior Dos Santos in the HW Division I see the title belt bouncing around among alot of these fighters. The HW division finally is getting thick again and I cannot wait.

If anyone can beat Brock, it's Nogueira, who I expect to win his bout against Mir. He's probably the most durable athlete in the sport and can hit submission from everywhere. The UFC HW division also includes Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez, who are to big, heavy-hitting wrestlers who could also beat Lesnar. Gonzaga has got the physical tools, but I think his mental game would crumble after eating a few punches. And of course Mir already has a win.

With all that being said, Brock's an incredible physical specimen. He's got very good wrestling, hits hard, and seems to take his training very seriously. While he's very beatable at this point, it also wouldn't surprise me if his physical gifts and fighting instincts keep that belt on him for a year or two.

Well...his next fight with either be against Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Noguiera or Frank Mir (whoever wins their fight next month). They are both excellent jiujitsu practioners, so they have an excellent chance of beating Lesnar. Plus Mir beat Lesnar in his first UFC fight (although Lesnar has improved a lot since then).

It could be a very short title reign (with all of the excellent competition in the Heavyweight division it will probably be a short reign). It's unlikely that anybody will hold the belt in the heavyweight division for a very long time...it's more likely that 3 or 4 excellent fighters will keep trading it back and forth.

If he is the real deal for a while

If he is hype by his next fight against BJJ experts Mir or Nogueira.

Remember the Heavyweight division in the UFC isn't that great. That is why Randy Couture came out of retirement beefed up a lil because Tim Sylvia had the belt and he felt he could beat him.

But I agree I see Brock winning against other people with wrestling experience via ground and pound but against a BJJ person I think his submission skills/defense is seriously lacking and that will catch up with him.

I hope Nogierra beats Mir, he's an idiot. Then dominates Lesnar. If Brock gets the rematch with Mir he is obviously not gonna get knee barred again. He will finish that fight the way it started the first time. There is no way Randy is finished. It was simply a bad matchup stylistically. Randy is not a submission expert. He showed he is the better wrestler. He was giving up 50 pounds, though. I think if he does not get caught he would have tested Brock's cardio and won. Also, there is no way he was dehydrated. He did not have to cut any weight.

Nogierra in a round 4 submission. Nogierra needs to test Brock's cardio. Cardio is going to be his downfall.

Nog has a chance to beat Brock if he fights Brock within the next 2 fights. Nog is fighting father time - he's been in too many battles(3 with Fedor where he got beat up, bad). He's on the decline while Brock is on the rise. He' training hard, learning and the man is a genetic freak. 260+lbs, XXXL gloves, 2x NCAA wrestling champion. He will be the champion for years if he maintains he focus on MMA. Give him 2 more years and he'll kick the crap outta Fedor, too.

If you look at where Lesnar is now compared to where he was in the the fight vs Mir, you have to admit that he's got talent. And, by the way, for those of you who didn't see that fight, Mir won due to Lesnar's inexperience.

Lesnar took Mir down at will, and beat the crap out of him for 85 seconds. But that's why this sports is so awesome. Mir got a chance because Lesnar left his leg too close to Mir's body, and a BJJ expert like Mir won't pass up that kind of opportunity. 5 seconds, fight over.

A quick look at his upcoming title defense:

Lesnar v Mir 2 - Lesnar dominated Mir in the stand-up game and on the ground during their first fight. With his improved stand-up and octagon experience I would see Lesnar taking this fight in round 1. What Mir did in the first fight is the same as somebody throwing a desperation haymaker and knocking the other guy out.

Lesnar v Nogueira - Well, Heath Herring almost beat Nog in their fight. He made a mental error and jumped on Big Nog, thus allowing the BJJ expert a chance. And that Sylvia vs Nogueira fight? Syliva punched him for 2 and a half rounds but gets submitted because he SUCKS. Lesnar fully dominated Herring for 3 rounds, after literally breaking his face on the first punch. I think Sylvia was shown for the joke he is after those sweet whuppins laid on him by Couture and then by Fedor.

People who don't think Lesnar will get better at this sport are in for a rude awakening. He's too big, too fast, too athletic, and too talented for any opponent to take him for granted. I'm looking forward to fights between him and Shane Corwin and Cain Velasquez. Hoo boy. I'm psyched up just thinking about it.

Frank Mir Will take that belt!!! Lesner hasn't has his chin tested by a big man yet. Mir, however, is the man for the job. Their first fight was weird, but Mir took Lesner to school via Jujitsu 101 which is Lesner's only loss so far out of four ( 4 ) Pro MMA fights making Lesner's record 3 - 1. Mir caught punch after punch to the back of his head from Lesner during their first fight because Lesner was a little on the scared side I think. Frank Mir has to know that the UFC Heavy weight championship belt is just sitting there with his name written all over it calling out his name ..... Fraaaank ...... Fraaaank ..... Fraaank come and get me I'm waiting .....Fraaaank!!!

Mir will be looking to test Lesner's little under developed legs too with some nice "Thigh Kicks" ( That's leg kicks to all you non-jujitsu practicing types out there - Joe Rogan this means you man ) as well as testing his chin with some well placed quick strikes. That belt will be Frank Mir's and besides that Frank Mir is the "people's" Champ as far as many are concerned, including my self. So all of us Frank Mir supporters are out here just waiting for the day and it'll arrive soon enough ..... mark my words.

he will will the call quickly, it is going to create much extra exposure for WWE. whilst Brock has basically signed a a million 365 days deal, this does not inevitably propose he leaves whilst it ends. Brock's wellness subject concerns further to his previous dislike of wrestling schedules skill that a shorter term settlement enhance into smart via the two events, and a sparkling settlement can/would be drawn up whilst the present one nears it is end.

Assuming Lesnar gets better every right and he continues to evolve, he might be champ for a long time. I'm a big Capt. America fan, but I have to tip my hat off to Brock for pulling this one off. He has a lot of potential it's a little scary

I don't know, but I think if a good Jiu Jitsu person comes after him, he is probably going down. I don't exactly enjoy him being champ. Is almost as bad as when Terra Serra was champ. :P I didn't get to see his fight against Couture, but I was surprised Couture lost to him. Maybe he lost because he hadn't fought much recently?

Depends man he is GIANT F-CKIN GORILLA like Donkey Kong, but I thing norgara could beat him,or Fedor if he comes to the UFC. All I really know is he is a freak with a Roid problem ,and shouldn't have got-ton a title shot so soon.
